So here we are
again. 21 years and 7 months after the last printed board generation is
the magazine as an online medium was resurrected.
Some may be
ask: why is bg back? I can answer this question with an excerpt from
answer my last editorial in 1997 one-to-one:
For fun, for sport and for you
A commitment to the sport that shapes me (and now also my children)
Because I can and I want to...
In the last few months, however, there have been three decisive events that have prompted me to start again with board generation. First of all I met Darren "Swifty" Swift in Kaunertal. He is the first snowboarder twice above the Beim Beim amputated snowboarder and showed me again that boarding is more than just a sport: it's a way of life. The interview with Swifty is on the website: "With both feet on the ground„. The second event I read was an interview with Donna Carpenter (Burton) in a Swiss daily newspaper, where they talk about the decrease in the number of snowboarders. Which is something I see every time I go out on the slopes or hear from my kids who is in the snowboarding or skiing class. And as a third event, the discontinuation of the TWS (Transworld Snowboarding) from commercial reasons (too little profit for the investors!), which I thought was impossible. Also many other magazines have been discontinued in the last years. And so snowboarding finds itself in a vicious circle. A vicious circle that the industry and also the FIS, for economic reasons, have created. I will report on this topic in detail in the coming weeks. And I would argue that the economically most potent target group, namely the boarders over 40, no longer have an adequate platform, unless they all go splitboarding, where there are still some excellent German-language online media.
So that's who
the right time to launch an independent medium, which hopefully will
People who can show the joy of snowboarding and it is not only about getting higher,
to be faster and farther. The foundation stone has now been laid, everything else
are now showing themselves.
It is interesting that bg is still a household name after all these years. So I wanted to get accredited at different places and was immediately recognized. After all these years there are still many people who know me and bg. So I was already travelling the last months in the Alps to visit events or meet cool people.
Currently starting bg
with a lot of passion for our lifestyle and without any
sponsors/advertising income, but I already have contact with free
employees who have promised me exciting stories. Also the
Planning for the coming season already in full swing. Some
Interesting projects are on the horizon and even wilder ideas I have in my head.
The focus is on bg
on the target groups longboarders, selected events, families, 30+ riders,
cool personalities, old school and Paralympics. I don't care if someone
drives a plate or soft binding, but this will not be a platform for
FIS or the Olympic Games. That's where I'll stay even after 20 years
true to my principles.
Also in a
the other thing I'm stuck in the last millennium: The stories are
and have photos. Since nowadays everybody has a GoPro on their helmet
or using a mobile phone for filming, the medium video has not
the same qualitative value as photos, which can be
time must be shot with the correct settings. Stop
really old school.
So I hope you enjoy reading and yes, if you would like to contribute as well. I am always looking for freelancers with exciting stories who want to contribute to our lifestyle.
