The World Rookie Tour made a guest appearance in Flachauwinkl on March 4, 2021 with the WSF Absolut Park Rookie Fest (Snowboard Big Air).
Flachauwinkl hosted the World Rookie Tour for the first time this week on March 4, 2021 and snowboarders from all over Europe took the chance to ride one of the best park setups in Europe. Yesterday, the Big Air was the center of attention. Titles were awarded for the Absolut Park Rookie Fest, at the same time it was also about the Austrian Championship for the Austrian participants and important FIS Europe Cup points for everyone. A full day of action for all participants!
Snowboard Big Air was on the agenda yesterday and the riders had a lot of fun with a perfectly prepared jump. As always, the Absolut Park crew provided the best conditions. More than 60 participants from 19 nations showed technically demanding tricks with numerous front triples and many 1260s and 1440s. The judges confirmed the extremely high riding level. It is even more impressive that some of the young riders made it to the finals with the big ones.
The World Rookie Fest titles were won by Sam Vermaat (NED) with an excellent fourth place in the European Cup and Bianca Gisler (SUI). In the Grom category (2006-2007) Frenchman Romain Allemand was happy about the victory. Austrian Champion in Snowboard Big Air was Maximilian Deutinger, who finished 11th in the Europa-Cup Ranking as best Austrian. Finnish Eveliina Taka and Swiss Jonas Junker beamed from the podium as the happy European Cup winners. Eveliina is no stranger to the World Rookie Tour events: "I grew up with the World Rookie Tour, I'm totally happy to win the European Cup here today as well." Jonas Junker convinced in the men's event with backside and frontside triples and clearly took the victory. Behind him the strong German faction with Noah Vicktor on second and Leon Vockensperger on third place.
Of course, a comprehensive Covid-19 safety concept was implemented in cooperation with the ÖSV to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved. A big thank you goes to partners and sponsors who made the event possible even in challenging times like these.
