Paula Benito/SPA, Moritz Amsuess/AUT (snowboard), Tereza Korabova/CZE and Ryan Stevenson/USA (ski) take the Rock A Rail Innsbruck 2024 titles
The weekend of November 22 - 24 is all about winter sports. For the third time, Snowfest Innsbruck will take place on the forecourt of the Tiroler Landestheater with the picturesque backdrop of the Nordkette mountain range and will delight visitors with the Rock A Rail Ski & Snowboard Contest the audience that comes in droves. The snowboarders and freeskiers set off a firework display of tricks on the new Rock A Rail setup and provided plenty of "wow" moments. Paula Benito (SPA) and Moritz Amsuess (AUT) took the Rock A Rail Innsbruck titles in the snowboarding category. Tereza Korabova (CZE) and Ryan Stevenson (USA) win Rock A Rail Ski.
ROCK A RAIL SKI & SNOWBOARD - The second Rock A Rail Tour stop in 2024 after Thun in mid-October offers an illustrious starting field with the best jibbers in the world, including World Cup winners as well as locals. 50 snowboarders and freeskiers from 23 countries will take Innsbruck by storm with explosive and creative tricks.
The snowboarders kick things off on Friday and show what is possible on a board on the setup, the so-called "Rock A Rail Cage". Paula Benito from Spain once again impresses in the women's competition. She is truly the Rock A Rail Queen, having won the first Rock A Rail Tour in 2023 and finished second on the podium at the first stop in Thun this year. She impressed the judges with a stylish front blunt indy and a crazy frontside 180 switch 50-50 half cab out. Anne-Sophie Lechon (BEL) confidently took second place. The young Austrian Selin Lakatha tricks her way into third place to the delight of the crowd: "I've now unexpectedly come third, which makes me really happy. It was a real challenge for me, but also a really good experience." In the men's event, Moritz Amsuess is the first Austrian Innsbruck winner. He tackled every rail and feature and impressed with a Cab 270 pretzel out and 50-50 to backside lipslide. He is happy about the victory at home: "It's a mega feeling to be on the podium, at home with all the homies in the crowd. What more could you want?" Second place goes to Nate Haust from the USA, who had already impressed as the winner of qualifying. The podium was completed by Petr Ershov (RUS), who impressed with his flow and style.
On Saturday, the freeskiers are in the spotlight and put on an incredible trick show, making the audience go wild. Eight ladies take up the challenge and show in a confident manner how much fun the new setup is. Tereza Korabova (CZE) stands out with her tricks and is delighted with the title: "The new setup is so much fun, it was very cool to ride with all the girls. And everyone really stepped on the gas." French rider Alais Develay came second in her Rock A Rail premiere, followed by María Estuu from Spain in third place. The men's competition is a real blast, they do tricks for all they're worth and really don't make it easy for the judges. In the end, Ryan Stevenson from the USA, who made the setup his own, took the win: "I'm a bit speechless right now. This is a huge thing for me! Thanks to the community, thanks Innsbruck, thanks Rock A Rail!" His compatriot Tucker Fitzsimons secured second place ahead of Petr Ershov (RUS) in third place.
Now the Snowfest entourage is moving on to the big Rock A Rail Ski & Snowboard Tour Final 2024, which will take place in The Hague from December 6-8.
SNOWFEST VILLAGE - TRY IT OUT & FIND OUT MORE - Next to the Rock A Rail ramp is the Snowfest Village, which represents the colorful world of winter sports. You can go snowboarding, test your sense of balance, try out skibobs, find out about avalanche camps at SAAC or try your hand at the downhill simulator. There is a lively crowd throughout the weekend. The Village is also well attended on Sunday, while the focus on the snow ramp is on children and teenagers trying out the defused rails. The setup was specially modified overnight for this purpose.
