Project "HEROES"

Reading time: 2 minutes

Jérôme Tanon, one of the best snowboard photographers, is proud to announce his new photo project "HEROES", which focuses exclusively on the outstanding talent of female snowboarders to show their infinite dynamism, passion and dedication. The most progressive female snowboarders in the world are part of this project, including Anna Gasser, Zoi Sadowski-Synott, Silje Norendal, Elena Graglia, Celia Petrig, Sina Candrian, Leanne Pelosi, Annie Boulanger, Marie-France Roy and Robyn Van Gyn, to name but a few. Jérôme is currently in his second season with the female drivers. Over the summer he will curate the art exhibition that will tour in the winter season 2020/21 to tell the stories of these inspiring women at events, resorts and galleries around the world.

About 'HEROES' in Jerome's words:
"Women who ride hard were always heroines to me; independent, tough girls who skate, surf and snowboard. But despite this appreciation, in the last 10 years that I've been a snowboard photographer, I've rarely taken truly epic photos of girls. There seemed to be a lack of dedicated global photographic work representing these girls, and this became the starting point for a two-year project to capture the culture and development of women in snowboarding. Using traditional methods, I photograph with a Pentax 6×7 medium format film camera, etch and then paint on the precious black and white negatives before making silver-gelatine prints in the darkroom. I hope that this series will eventually hang in museums and show how the passion and dedication of these women is a form of art. These women are heroes for the next generation and iconic figures of action-driven girls. The prints will be about 100×125 cm and the art exhibition will include a making-of video as well as artwork and texts by the drivers themselves".

About Jérôme:
The 33-year-old photographer has made a respected name for himself in snowboard photography over the last 12 years. He is a true artist and is in love with the traditional analogue photographic techniques he has applied to modern snowboard photography. Jérôme photographs mainly on film, developing and editing the photos in his darkroom. Besides his distinctive photographic style, he is also known for his award-winning documentaries "The Eternal Beauty of Snowboarding" (2016) and "Zabardast" (2018).

We will keep you up to date as soon as the venues, cities and dates are known.
