Reading time: 2 minutes

Jérôme Tanon, French photographer and filmmaker, proudly presents his latest masterpiece "HEROES", a photo project dedicated to the unique women in snowboarding and their dedication and passion for it. A successful crowdfunding campaign in early summer created the basis for "HEROES" as a large-format hardcover book, which will be available worldwide from 13 October 2020. In addition, the photo project is going on an exhibition tour with the first fixed dates for this autumn, further dates will follow in 2021.

The photo project - Jérôme has always had great respect for all those independent and strong women who snowboard, skate or surf. Nevertheless, in the course of his career he has hardly ever taken any really exceptional pictures of them. This lack of good photography inspired him to follow some of the most talented female snowboarders around the globe for two winters to document and capture the culture and progress of women in snowboarding. The focus is on a great crew of female snowboarders including Elena Griglia (ITA), Ylfa Runarsdottir (ISL), Laurie Blouin (CAN), Anna Gasser (AUT), Elena Könz (SUI), Yuka Fujimori (JAP), Silje Norendal (NOR), Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (NZL), Mary France Roy (CAN) and many more. Jérôme photographs with an analogue Pentax 6×7 medium format. He processes the negatives by painting on them, among other things, before making silver gelatine prints in the darkroom.

HEROES - THE BOOK - The book is self-published and comes with 288 pages packed with Jérôme's pictures, complemented by artwork and text from female snowboarders and artists around the world. Thanks to the support of the snowboard community during the crowdfunding campaign in early summer, the book has now become a reality. From 13 October "HEROES" available in selected snowboard shops and online through Blue Tomato and Snowboarder Magazine for € 45/US$ 50.

HEROES - THE EXHIBITION - A selection of large-format photos will soon go on tour to tell the stories of these women who test their limits every day on the snowboard. The first two vernissages will take place from 24 October to 6 November at ART BY FRIENDS in Annecy (FRA) and in Champery (SUI) during the Mountain Film Festival from 6 to 8 November. Further exhibitions will follow in 2021/22, when the Covid-19 editions will again be more event friendly. They are at www.jerometanon.com and to learn about @jerometanon.

About Jérôme - The 33 year old photographer has made a name for himself over the last 12 years with the greatest respect in the snowboard scene. He is a true artist and loves conventional analogue photo technology, which he combines with modern snowboard photography.
