Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards in 1977 in his barn in Vermont and dedicated the rest of his life to snowboarding. Over the next 42 years, Jake pioneered the spread of snowboarding, turning a backyard hobby into a world-class sport by creating groundbreaking products, supporting a team of top-notch snowboarders and convincing resorts to allow snowboarding. He tirelessly championed snowboarding and snowboarders around the world. Jake passed away last November and the snowboarding community wanted something to come together and do what he loved most - snowboarding.
On 13 March 2020 the first "A Day for Jake"-event held to honor the legacy of Jake Burton Carpenter. Thirteen resorts around the world are participating in "A Day for Jake" and offering free lift tickets for all snowboarders who pre-register to join us for a snowboarding event in memory of Jake on March 13th, and anyone who wants to strap on a snowboard is invited to participate: Riders, their friends and family members and everyone else, no matter what level.
The "A Day for Jake" event will also bring together the entire snowboarding industry with many brands, professional team riders, locals, shop owners and employees. In honor of "A Day for Jake", all Burton offices and stores will be closed on March 13. And because teaching others to snowboard was one of Jake's passions, some participating resorts are also offering "Learn to Ride" special packages for friends and family members of the snowboarding community and anyone else who wants to learn to snowboard on this day.
