Winter 2021 - or: A lot of things turned out differently than planned. At the end of September, the risk'n'fun TEAM was still confident about the approaching winter. The Freeride Starter Workshops with Blue Tomato had been prepared, all camps had been switched ONLINE, new resorts such as Obergurgl were on the tour schedule and numerous dates were already booked up. risk'n'fun, the training programme of the Austrian Alpine Club Youth for freeriders aged 16 and over, was in top shape for the 21st winter season.
Looking back, everything turned out differently. The whole of November was cancelled, hopes shifted to the DROP IN days around Christmas time. The DROP INS then also cancelled and postponed. A small glimmer of hope that maybe mid-January could work. Unfortunately, the negative trend continued with appointment cancellations and postponements. At some point it was just clear that a risk'n'fun FREERIDE winter will not work in times of a pandemic.
It really hurt. Especially considering it was one of the most challenging winters in a long time. A winter with large amounts of precipitation, an insidious snowpack buildup coupled with the great need for many people to get out and be out in the mountains. All in all, a difficult endeavor when it is precisely at times like this that hands-on being on the mountain with kids, teens and adults is lacking.
So be it. In the last weeks a lot of work was done and the risk'n'fun TEAM used the time - or more correctly the BREAK - for concept revisions, sharpening and new developments. Everything that would not have been possible in a normal winter, because the trap of everyday life would have mercilessly clocked through November, December, January, February and March. The risk'n'fun TEAM is already ready for the winter of 2022 - but for now hopes for a relaxed BIKE SEASON 2021.
"mobile and spontaneous", the first BIKE DROP IN is planned for mid-May in Vorarlberg, before more risk'n'fun BIKE summer dates follow from June onwards.
Outlook: Registration for Winter 2022 begins September 1, 2021.
