It's April 10, 2021, the day of the Longboard Classic in Stuben am Arlberg. The dinosaurs of the snowboard scene are here and enjoy the cool season finale with more than 500 other participants...
That's probably how my story would have started, if it wasn't for... #fuckcorona . This year there would have been a huge party for the 20th anniversary of the LBC and also Rad-Air would have celebrated strongly, because they celebrate their 30th anniversary. A headache on Sunday would have been almost inevitable.
Currently, however, we are trapped in our countries and in some cases - hello Germany - we can't even get onto the slopes because the lifts have to be closed. In Switzerland we have it better. All our slopes are open, although Italy and France wanted to "persuade" us to shut them down.
And now? April 10 has been reserved on the calendar for a year now. Just like the years before, when the LBC had priority over any other event in my calendar. Now, after the cancellation of the LBC, Harry and Fabien Gunz of Rad-Air have decided that they will still celebrate this day with friends. And 30 years of Rad-Air are reason enough to meet and celebrate our lifestyle. That's why many WhatsApps went out with the headline "Riding with Friends". Many friends and long-time companions followed the call or maybe the promised beer and sausage and went to Hoch-Ybrig on April 10th.
Best weather, good snow, whereby the beautiful powder two days before was completely used up and best mood made this to a crowning season conclusion.
Even the Grandmaster of the LBC - Paul Gruber - was out with us. Paul probably came to board for the first time at the LBC date again. I don't begrudge him that, but next time he better not come again, because that means that the masses are rushing down the Albona again and the LBC is in full swing.
So for all of you who don't know yet: Make a reservation for April 2, 2022, when the next LBC will take place and the missed party will be made up for!
